While turkey, pumpkin pie and family get-togethers steal much of this season’s limelight, the true focus of the season should be on one thing: giving thanks. To celebrate, we’re using this blog to pay tribute to the fuel sources that are the backbone for our livelihood: oil and gas.
Transportation / Work. Oil and gas help us get from one place to another. Whether you’re driving to work or flying across three time zones for an important business meeting, it wouldn’t be possible without fuel. Additionally, fuel helps us get things done. What powers the majority of lawnmowers, snowblowers and leaf blowers? Gas.
Modern Conveniences. Petroleum is found in hundreds of everyday products, including bike tires, fingernail polish, trash bags, candles, and even dishwasher parts. It’s also a key component in the majority of plastics. Look around you: What objects in your office contain petroleum? Chances are good the answer is more than you think!
Warmth. Unless you heat your home using a wood stove, you probably use oil and gas to stay warm and cozy. Heat is a modern convenience, but have you actually thought about where it comes from? That energy has to be generated somewhere, right?
Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at the WPMA! As you sit down to celebrate with family and friends, consider how oil and gas affect your own life. Then, visit us on Facebook to leave a comment on your reflections.
